Shipping & Installation Policy

Steel and Stud (a division of Carports and More, Inc.) delivers and professionally installs prefabricated metal carports, garages, barns, RV covers, portable buildings, and commercial steel structures across the 48 contiguous United States. This page consolidates every aspect of how your order moves from deposit to completed installation: where we deliver, how long it takes, what's included, what isn't, how payment works, how to cancel, and what to do if something goes wrong.

1. Coverage Area

Steel and Stud delivers and installs in all 48 contiguous U.S. states, supported by a network of regional manufacturing facilities and authorized installation crews. Use the "Select State" dropdown in the site header for state-specific pricing and lead times. We do not currently ship to:

  • Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, or other U.S. territories
  • P.O. Box addresses (a physical installation site is required)
  • Remote off-road locations not accessible by a pickup truck towing a 20-ft equipment trailer

Some remote portions of certain states may have limited coverage by the manufacturer used for pricing in the Carport Builder. If your address falls outside the standard service area, we will contact you with the correct pricing — including any per-mile freight surcharge — before your deposit is processed.

2. Lead Time by Region

The total time from deposit to completed installation is typically 4 to 8 weeks, with roughly 85% of orders installed within 6 weeks. Lead time depends on your region, the structure size, the season, and manufacturer backlog.

RegionStatesTypical Window
SoutheastAL, AR, FL, GA, KY, LA, MS, NC, SC, TN, VA, WV2–5 weeks
Midwest / Mid-AtlanticDE, IL, IN, KS, MD, MO, OH, OK, PA, TX3–6 weeks
New England, Upper Midwest, Pacific NorthwestCT, MA, ME, MI, MN, NH, NJ, NY, ND, OR, RI, VT, WA, WI4–8 weeks
Western Mountain & remote rural ZIPsAZ, CO, ID, MT, NM, NV, SD, UT, WY, CA (mountain)6–10 weeks; per-mile surcharges may apply

These windows begin once your order is approved, your deposit is cleared, and a photo of your prepared site has been received. They do not include time spent waiting on customer-side actions such as permits, site preparation, or scheduling-call returns.

Factors that can extend lead time

  • Late-summer through winter weather delays in regions where the ground freezes (orders move to priority status once the ground thaws — pricing is protected if the manufacturer raises rates during a weather-driven delay).
  • Manufacturer holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year).
  • Buildings wider than 24 feet, which require special-construction crews.
  • Buildings larger than 40' × 60', which may require oversize freight coordination.
  • Customer rescheduling — the lead-time clock restarts from the date of the new contact.

3. Order Processing & Handling Time

  • Handling time: Orders are processed within three (3) business days of receipt of your deposit and signed order confirmation, then submitted to manufacturing.
  • Order cut-off: Orders received before 5:00 PM EST on a business day count as that day's processing date. Orders received after 5:00 PM EST or on weekends/holidays are dated the next business day.
  • Confirmation step: Your order cannot be scheduled for installation until we receive your reply confirming the configuration, color, and site address. Once your response is received the order is forwarded to the manufacturer's scheduling department.

4. Shipping & Installation Costs

4.4 What's Always Included with Tubular Steel Installation

  • All structural steel components and screws
  • Standard color selection (12 color options, no upcharge)
  • Standard anchoring for your surface type (rebar/pin, concrete wedge, or asphalt — see Section 7)
  • Crew labor, travel, and standard equipment
  • Final on-site inspection with the lead installer

4.5 What's NOT Included

  • Concrete slab pour (if you choose to install on a slab)
  • Permits, zoning approvals, HOA sign-offs, and any associated fees
  • Site clearing, grading, or leveling
  • Trash haul-away from your existing structure (if any)
  • Electrical, plumbing, or HVAC work
  • Insulation, doors, and windows beyond the configuration ordered
  • Sales tax (where applicable) — added to your final balance

5. Sales Tax & Duties

  • State and local sales tax is calculated based on your delivery / installation address per your state's nexus rules and applied to your final balance.
  • Steel and Stud does not currently ship outside the contiguous 48 states — no import duties or customs fees apply.
  • We do not require, collect, or process VAT.

6. Site Preparation (Customer Responsibility)

A correctly prepared site is the single most important factor in a fast, on-budget installation. The customer is responsible for:

  1. A level pad — within 2 to 3 inches of true level across the structure footprint. The installation includes a 6-inch riser at the bottom rail; legs may be cut or raised within this tolerance. If your pad exceeds tolerance, you must supply leveling materials or reschedule.
  2. Clearance — at least 4 feet of open clearance on every side of the planned structure for the crew to walk and stage materials.
  3. Site access — a path wide enough for a pickup truck towing a 20-ft equipment trailer, with overhead clearance for the trailer height.
  4. Permits, zoning & HOA — all approvals secured before ordering.
  5. Buried utility marking — call 811 ("Call Before You Dig") at least 3 business days before installation to mark gas, water, sewer, electric, and communication lines. Steel and Stud and our installation crews are not liable for damage to unmarked utilities.
  6. Site readiness photo — a clear photo of the prepared site emailed to us before scheduling. The lead-time clock starts when this photo is received.

6.1 Concrete Slab Sizing (if used)

Concrete pad sizes vary by structure model. Contact us before pouring your slab so we can confirm: (a) overall slab dimensions, (b) anchor-bolt placement and embed-depth, and (c) whether your local code requires a footing or thickened edge.

6.2 If Your Site Isn't Ready on Install Day

If the crew arrives and the site is not within tolerance or is inaccessible, two outcomes are possible:

  • The crew can install "as-is" with documented limitations (you waive certain warranty items related to leveling).
  • The installation is rescheduled as a priority on the next available date, and a return-trip fee applies.

7. Foundation & Anchor Selector

The correct anchor depends on your surface. Standard anchors for your surface type are included; upgrades are quoted at the order stage.

SurfaceIncluded AnchorUpgrade Option
Concrete slabConcrete wedge anchor boltsEngineered through-bolts (state-stamped)
AsphaltAsphalt anchorsConcrete-encased pier (extra)
Bare ground / gravelRebar / pin anchors — ½" × 36" steel bars with welded nutMobile-home helical anchors (extra)
Mobile home / trailer setupMobile-home helical anchors (priced)
State note: In several states, units enclosed on three sides and installed on ground, gravel, grass, or asphalt require a minimum of four mobile home anchors by code. We will flag this on your quote.

8. Permits, Engineered Plans & Certified Buildings

  • Permit responsibility: All zoning, setback, height, and permit requirements are the customer's responsibility and must be confirmed before ordering.
  • Standard buildings (non-certified): Carport Builder prices are for non-certified buildings.
  • Generic engineered plans: Available in most states for an additional fee.
  • Stamped / state-sealed plans: Required by some jurisdictions; always required in CO, ID, MT, ND, NE, SD, UT, and WY. Quoted before order.
  • Wind & snow load certification: Custom packages available up to manufacturer maximums — pricing scales with state load tables and structure size.
  • Permit denials: Once plans are sent, deposits are non-refundable if a permit is denied for reasons unrelated to the plans themselves. See Section 12.

9. Scheduling & Communication

  1. After your order is approved and your deposit clears, the manufacturer typically places a welcome call within approximately 14 days.
  2. After the welcome call, you may not hear from the manufacturer again until 1 to 4 business days before installation — this is normal and not a sign of a problem.
  3. The scheduling department must speak with you directly to confirm the installation date.
  4. A photo of your prepared site must be received before installation is scheduled. The lead-time clock starts when the photo is received.

If 30 days pass after approval without contact from the scheduling department, please call (877) 275-7048 or email orders@steelandstud.com so we can escalate with the manufacturer.

10. Day of Installation: What to Expect

  • Crew size & equipment: 2 to 4 person crew arriving in a pickup truck with flatbed equipment trailer.
  • Arrival window: A 4-hour arrival window is confirmed approximately 24 hours in advance. Crews may arrive earlier or later within the day due to road conditions, weather, or challenges at a previous job.
  • Adult present: Plan for an adult to be on-site for the entire day. If you cannot be present, clearly mark the install area and arrange for another authorized adult to be available.
StructureTypical install time
Single-car or two-car carport (up to 22' wide)3 to 6 hours
Triple-wide carport, tall-clearance RV cover6 to 10 hours (often 1 day)
Standard enclosed garage (up to 30' wide)1 to 2 days
Commercial / clear-span structure 40'+2 to 4 days
  • Walk-through: At completion, the lead installer reviews the structure with you. Visible workmanship issues must be noted on the completion form before the crew leaves the site.
  • If the crew cannot complete the install due to severe weather, unsafe site conditions, or site readiness issues, your installation is rescheduled as a priority on the next available date (return-trip fee may apply if site readiness caused the delay).

11. Payment, Deposits & Balance

Financing & Rent-to-Own

Monthly financing and rent-to-own paths are available through Steel and Stud for qualifying customers. Application does not affect your credit until approval.

The completed structure remains the property of the manufacturer until the balance is paid in full.

12. Cancellations, Restocking & Lead-Time Refund

12.1 Cancellation matrix

When you cancelWhat happens
Within 3 days of the order confirmation dateFull refund of deposit. Cancellation request must be in writing to orders@steelandstud.com.

Custom-sized unitsDeposits are non-refundable.
Customer rescheduleIf you are contacted for installation but cannot accept the date, the lead-time clock restarts. Installation delays are not a valid reason for cancellation.

12.2 Lead-Time Refund Guarantee

If we exceed the upper bound of your quoted regional lead-time window by more than 14 calendar days without a documented force-majeure cause (severe weather, manufacturer plant closure, government order), you may request a full deposit refund. Submit the request in writing to orders@steelandstud.com.

13. Damages, Defects & Warranty

13.1 On-site inspection (Day of installation)

Before the crew leaves, walk the structure with the lead installer. Visible workmanship issues — uneven trim, missing screws, dents, panel scratches — must be noted on the completion form on the day of installation.

13.2 Reporting concealed issues

For issues not visible on installation day, contact us within 30 days of installation:

  • Email: orders@steelandstud.com (include order number, photos, brief description)
  • Phone: (877) 275-7048

13.3 Warranty coverage

ComponentWarranty
14-gauge frame30-day workmanship warranty
12-gauge frame30-day workmanship warranty plus 20-year limited rust-through warranty (normal use and maintenance assumed)
29-gauge roof, side, and end panelsManufacturer warranty applies; see warranty doc supplied at installation
Optional certified-plan structuresWind/snow load performance per the certified package

13.4 Out of scope

  • Damage from severe weather events (covered by your property insurance)
  • Damage from unmarked buried utilities (customer responsibility — see Section 6)
  • Damage from build-over of customer-supplied existing structures
  • Cosmetic wear from environmental exposure consistent with normal use

For cancellations, order revisions, refund requests, and full warranty terms, see our Return Policy.

14. Order Tracking

Because installation is included and coordinated by the manufacturer's crew, there is no traditional carrier tracking number for tubular orders. Your visibility comes from four scheduled touchpoints:

  1. Order confirmation email within 3 business days of deposit.
  2. Manufacturer welcome call within ~14 days of approval.
  3. Scheduling confirmation 1–4 days before installation.
  4. Day-of arrival window confirmed approximately 24 hours in advance.

For status updates between these touchpoints, contact us at (877) 275-7048 or orders@steelandstud.com. For cold-formed kit shipments (separate freight), a carrier tracking number is provided by email when the kit ships.
